How much can you purchase?
The amount you can purchase is determined by the type of product. Recreational dispensaries can only sell (1) one ounce of flower or (8) eight grams of concentrate or 800mg of edibles. It is illegal to “loop” through a dispensary by leaving and returning to purchase more than these amounts. The amount that a Colorado resident can purchase is the same as a non-resident.
What forms of payment are accepted?
It is highly recommended to bring cash when you visit a Colorado dispensary. Some dispensaries accept debit cards but typically apply an additional fee for doing so. Many dispensaries will have ATMs located inside of their lobby. These ATMs typically charge a service fee anywhere from $2.00 to $3.00. You can avoid this service fee by visiting your bank’s ATM prior to your visit.
Driving with marijuana
It is illegal to drive in Colorado with open containers of marijuana products. Many cannabis products feature a safety seal to prevent tampering. If that seal is broken or the inner contents altered in any fashion it may be considered an open container. To avoid any potential misunderstanding while traveling with marijuana, place any containers in the rear of the vehicle far out of reach.
Cannabis-related DUI arrests are up 48% in 2021 compared to 2020, according to the Colorado State Patrol. The state of Colorado has set a limit of 5 nanograms of THC per milliliter of blood. If yo are found to be operating a motor vehicle with 5 nanograms of THC in your system you will most likely receive a DUI.
THC affects everyone differently dependent on a wide range of factors. If you choose to consume marijuana while visiting Colorado, please be responsible and avoid the roadways.
Where to consume Cannabis
Consumption of marijuana in public spaces is illegal and may result in a $100 citation. Examples of public spaces that do not permit marijuana consumption include; parks, sidewalks, rest-stops, parking lots, and sports venues. You are NOT allowed to consume cannabis on dispensary property. This by no means is an all-encompassing list, but the general rule is that unless you are in a private residence or event venue that permits the consumption of cannabis you may receive a citation.
